Young Women’s Easter Activity Idea // A Walk Through the Life of Jesus Christ

I have been recently called as the Personal Progress Advisor for the Young Women in my Ward Church Calling and I have loved it so much.  This Young Women’s activity idea is one of many that I want to share here on the blog.  One of the Leaders headed up this activity and it was so spiritually uplifting and I think that it could be used any time of the year, especially Easter or Christmas, but it also goes really well with the “Peace in Christ” theme for the 2018 year.

The activity was to have the Women go from room to room, experiencing the Life of Christ, from his birth to his Resurrection.  These were the rooms that we did and the order that we did them.

  1. The Birth of Jesus Christ
  2. Jesus Christ’s Teachings and Ministry
  3. The Last Supper
  4. The Garden of Gethsemane
  5. The Crucifixion
  6.  The Resurrection

Young Women Activity Idea - The Crucifixion of Jesus Christ

Each Leader was in charge of a different room, I was in charge of The Crucifixion and that is the room that I will go into the most detail about, but I will explain all of the rooms.  I wasn’t able to see what happened in all of the rooms because I was preparing my room, but her are the things that our leaders did and a few ideas of my own…  **If you have other ideas, leave them in the comments and I will add them to the list.

The Birth of Jesus Christ

Ideas:

  • Life size nativity set up, or even use real people.
  • Show a video of the Nativity.
  • Discuss the importance of the Nativity.

Jesus Christ’s Teachings and Ministry

Ideas:

  • Our Leader had the room filled with image of Christ Teaching and various stories of Christ.  She asked the girls to help her discuss their favorite stories of Christ and what his teachings have taught them and how they have been able to apply his example in their lives.  She also shared a few specific stories of Women and how he treated them and loved them and related it to the Love that Jesus has for us as Women and Daughters of God.
  • You could act out a Story from Christ’s Teachings.

The Last Supper

Ideas:

  • Our Leader had the Bishop come dressed as an Apostle and he shared the story of the Last Supper from the perspective of an Apostle.
  • You could display and let the girls try bread from the time period.
  • You could tell the story of the Last Supper and display images.

The Garden of Gethsemane

Ideas:

  • Our Leader had the room very dark with only a single light behind a rock that she had made from cardboard.  Behind the rock, there were also artificial trees, to give the visual that we were in the Garden.  She spoke with the girls about the meaning of the word “Gethsemane” and its relation to an Olive press.  She spoke with the girls about the Atonement and what happened in the Garden.  Then she played the primary song “Gethsemane” and ended with her testimony

The Crucifixion

This is what I did for my room. I turned on  these 2 songs, in this order:

I first had them wait in the hall and let them in one at a time.  I had this sign displayed, asking them to not talk and to quietly ponder the Crucifixion.

I let them in one at a time with about 30 seconds to a minute between them, so that they could read the signs on the tables with out feeling crowded.  On the tables, I displayed photos and cards that had descriptions of the horrors of Crucifixion.  I displayed them in chronological order.  I got most of the images from LDS.org in their Media Library HERE.

When they finished reading and got to the end of the table, I handed them a nail with the quote attached “Father, Forgive them, for they know not what they do” and I quietly asked them to have a seat in the room next to us, which had what appeared to look like the body of Christ wrapped and laid in the Tomb.  They waited their until everyone finished, and at that point, we lead them out of the room to move on to the next room.  **The Quote and cards are included in a free download that you can get at the bottom of the page**

The Resurrection

Ideas:

  • Our Leader had the room lit brighter, which was a good contrast to the last 2 rooms, and in the middle, there was a table covered in white with what appeared to be empty wrappings, showing that the Savior’s body was gone.  She had the chairs in a half circle around the table where we sat and there were balloons on the chairs.  She changed the tone from sadness to excitement and rejoicing.  She was dressed as a Woman from the era, and she pretended to be a Woman who watched Mary from afar and she watched the story from the time that Mary found an empty tomb, until the time that Jesus Showed himself to his disciples.
  • You could also sho the video of the resurrection.

Thanks for reading through!  For our girls and us, this activity felt inspired and perfect, we had several tender mercies putting it together.  I hope that you find some of these suggestions useful.  Feel free to download the free printables below and use them.  If you share this, please give credit and include a link to this page.
